At vimeo, I sit accross the desk from Peter, at Ted’s old desk. (I am reminded of this whenever I look down and see the sticker that says “Ted’s Keyboard,” it makes me laugh in my head.) One of my favorite things to do at work when I am not busy with something else (or really even if I am) is rolling my chair over to Peter’s desk and watching him work. I really like watching people work on things they are good at (like Cait painting a picture or Casey editing a video) because I think it is interesting and a good way to learn things. People at vimeo are pretty good at indulging me in this and let me “hover” around them as they do their jobs. Peter, though, is the best. He speaks effortlessly about everything he is doing, taking time to explain this and that or answer questions that pop into my head. Most of what he does is really complicated and way out of my range of knowledge, but I have learned a lot from him, whether or not he realizes it. I worry sometimes that I am bugging him, though.
